How do Subluxations happen?

Video: What is a subluxation?

In the last post, I discussed what a subluxation is so now we will talk about how they happen. Subluxations may be Structural, Chemical, and/or Emotional. A subluxation can also cause the other areas to subluxate. For example, Suppose there is a motion restriction or bad movement within the spinal column. In that case, it can cause a chemical imbalance within the body, and this chemical imbalance can emotionally affect you and vice-versa.

Subluxations are a part of everyday living. They occur, and we may not even perceive them happening. Even simply stepping a little wrong could cause a structural subluxation, they happen, and that is a fact of life.

Medicine is the study of disease and what causes man to die. Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes man to live.

A common way to talk of the causes in the chiropractic community is bringing up toxins, traumas and thoughts. This is a simple way of thinking about negatives that can affect the structural, chemical, and emotional triangle. Toxins is linked directly to the Chemical leg, Traumas to the Structural leg, and Thoughts to the Emotional leg. As each leg will either become hypo or hyper, lessened or increased. This will cause the other legs to also be thrown off of baseline and not be in a state of homeostasis or balance.

Structurally these subluxations occur through bone structures, mainly the spine, becoming inflamed within the joint cavity. This Inflammation causes the nerve supply to become interfered or impinged do to the pressure put on the nerve. This pressure in the nerve will send a response to the surrounding muscles making them hypertonic or tightened up in order to immobilize the joint. This is a natural adaptation of the body to lock down the joint so that the inflammation does not become worse causing even more impingement on the nerve. The nervous system is vital to our bodies, it is how the human body sends and receives signals to maintain homeostasis, function and healing. When there is interference, your body can not function at full capacity.

This is where Chiropractic differs from everything else. Instead of simply moving a bone to affect the spine and musculature to relieve a temporary pain, we find subluxations within the body and attempt to set your body to a performance level to heal that subluxation. We do not treat pain or symptoms; we see the patient as a whole and try to keep their nervous system free of interference.

As a professional I am working to help every patient to be subluxation free. For me, I do not want to only focus on the structural subluxation, I plan to help find and treat chemical and Emotional subluxations also. A few ways that I have gone about that is by diving into techniques like Applied Kinesiology, Neuro emotional technique and learning about nutrition. With each of these techniques (and many others which I am working on put not naming specifically) I will be able to help each patient in the way that they need specifically, and more efficiently find and help clear their subluxations. I do not do any of these techniques with a treatment in mind for the patient, but to help the patient be in the best and most balanced position Mentally, Physically and Spiritually. In this balanced state the patient will be better equipped to adapt to whatever life throws at them.

You’re not stuck. You’re just committed to certain patterns of behavior because they helped you in the past. Now those behaviors have become more harmful than helpful. The reason why you can’t move forward is because you keep applying an old formula to a new level in your life. Change the formula to get a different result.

All of that being said, Subluxations are not a bad thing. They are the body’s way of adapting to the stress that it is put through. Many times they help us from further injuring ourselves. However, these adaptations will remain so long as the problem is not dealt with. As life continues, subluxations will build up, each one diminishing your level of adaptability. Therefore, you need to get the old adaptations cleared out to allow for new ones to take place.
